Medical Surgical Nursing Department

Medical Surgical Nursing is a distinct speciality which specializes the students to care of patients with medical and surgical conditions. This department acts as a foundation for the development qualified professionals which exhibit excellence in the nursing education, practice, administration and research. It deals with Nursing Foundations, Medical Surgical Nursing, Advanced Nursing Practice and super speciality for the post-graduate students. The department has a highly qualified, skilled, proficient and broad base of experience faculty with their various accomplishments in the filed of research who make uses of their various innovative teaching strategies.

The department provides an environment for the students as a advocates and health educators to promote health and to prevent disease to the patient, family, and community. The entry-level medical–surgical department makes nursing judgments based on scientific knowledge and relies on procedures and standardized care plans.

Nursing Foundation department

The department of Nursing Foundation act as the “body of abstract knowledge” with the creative application through scientific research, logical analysis and skills in assisting individual to achieve optimal health. It qualifies the students to obtain abstract knowledge with the application of the scientific principles, by developing attitudes and skills that involves in the incorporation of ethics and professionalism to actual and potential problems for the treatment of human responses. It mainly focuses on the wide variety of opportunities for students and patient safety in the health care environment. The department has an experienced faculty with extensive knowledge for teaching and research activities.

The Nursing foundation subject is specially deals with the B. Sc Nursing and Post Basic B. Sc Nursing in the 1st year to provide clinical services and include basic care of patients in different settings. The department also integrates parallel learning disciplines such as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, nutrition, microbiology, psychology for safe and competent clinical practice.

Child Health Nursing Department

The department of paediatric nursing, specifically revolves around the care of neonates and children’s up to adolescence who are suffering from severe health problems and at high medical risk. The department key features mainly on providing a quick response to stressful circumstances in life threatening situations and focuses on emergency nursing care which includes handling the multifaceted trauma, stabilising  neonates and children, quickly diagnosing conditions, providing on- spot solutions, administering appropriate medications, upgrading skills and knowledge in the field, and maintaining equanimity among the children and their family members. The main aim of the department is to articulate the students in developing knowledge, skills to function as a paediatric nurse in providing holistic nursing care to neonates, children and adolescence. The department is sophisticated with variety of equipment’s, mannequins, which provides great opportunities to the under graduates and post graduates while performing procedures in the simulation corner allied to child care.  The department has faculties who are very passion and experts in the field of paediatric nursing.

Obstetrics and Gynaecological Nursing Department

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Nursing is endowed in dealing with women in relation to her reproductive organs, prenatal, intra-natal and postnatal period. It aims in preparing the undergraduate and post graduate students to cater the needs of women and children and ensure responsibility and quality in providing nursing care, education and research. The department trains the students with specialised knowledge and skill to excel in extended and expanded nursing roles especially in the communities with an evidence-based practice. Experienced nursing faculty members with doctoral qualification are an add up strength to the department which encourages the Faculty and student to actively involves in rendering nursing care to the obstetrics and gynaecological needs of the women and new-born.

Mental health Nursing Department

Mental health is a state of wellness where an individual can be mentally sound, productive, work, cope and contribute to family and society. Mental health is not a state where an individual is never sad, angry, scared, or hurt. Psychological well-being is for the most part, liking your own personality, and managing friendships and responsibilities. Mental health nursing is the appointed position that specialises in mental health, and cares for people of all ages experiencing mental illnesses or distress. The department of mental health nursing facilitates the students to see patients as individual people with lives beyond their mental illness which helps in making patients feel valued and respected. The department helps the students to focus on Individual needs of mentally ill patients by proper assessment, providing standard interventions, and the ability to evaluate the risks associated with the diseases and improving their skills. The faculty members are feathered up with doctoral qualification and experienced faculty with a wide exposure of clinical specialities, roles and various teaching & learning methods.

  • Conducting camps, surveys, awareness programs, counselling sessions in collaboration with the department of psychiatry which deals with adult psychiatry, de addiction, child psychiatry, adolescent and community psychiatry.

Community Health Nursing Department

Community health nursing specialty is also known as public health nursing. The department integrates community involvement and knowledge about the entire population with personal, clinical understanding of health and illness experiences of individuals and families within the population. It offers learning experience that facilitates competent nurses, who demonstrate excellence in community service, family & individual care, education and research. The department works within communities and helps the students to focus on different areas as public health nurses in schools districts, state and national health departments to improve the overall health of the people within that community. The department as committed faculty members who are experts in recent advancements.

The field of training is set forth in both rural and urban areas including the primary health centres. The students are exposed to both government sector and our parent health centres in the rural and urban area.


  • Committed in providing preventive, curative, rehabilitative and referral services to the people through Mass awareness programmes, health camps, screening, health programs at national level, risk management services and epidemic control measures.
  • Regular surveys / enumeration are carried out for planning and implementation of health programmes.
  • Home visits are made by community health nursing students under the supervision of the faculty members for Screening of communicable and non-communicable diseases, such as DM, HT, stroke and Cardiovascular diseases, cancer cervix, TB, Filaria, dengue fever and HIV & AIDS.
  • Students perform physical assessment for different age groups including antenatal and postnatal assessment, nutritional assessment, socioeconomic and environment assessment to identify the health needs and problems of the family.
  • Promoting health behaviour including food and nutrition, physical exercise, counselling, self-care, treating of minor illnesses, complementary therapies etc.
  • Empowering women and capacity building of community agencies/ organizations, groups and networks to encourage collaborative community initiatives and nurturing social relations and activities among people in the community.
  • Conducting school health programme for both private and government schools in collaboration with other departments to provide free medical camps in the schools and community.
